Nike Art Gallery is West Africa’s largest art gallery. With over 500 sculptures, 8,000 paintings, and thousands of indigenous and hand designed fabrics, the gallery contains one of the most extensive African art collections in Africa.
It was founded by Artist and Designer, Nike Davies Okundaye, after she realised that the traditional crafts and methods of weaving and dying fabrics that had been her original inspiration were fading in Nigeria. This inspired her to launch a cultural revival, building art and research centres, training facilities and a fabric museum all over the country that promote.
The gallery shows Nigeria as an ancient culture that thrives in modern cities, a world that moves easily between talking drums and the internet. It is the home of Nigerian Arts and Culture with a rich and diverse collection of paintings, traditional arts and crafts, sculptures, colourful batik and other indigenous fabrics.
Whether you are a specialist in the arts, an enthusiast of African arts or merely interested in a brief immersion in a new culture, Nike Art Gallery offers the opportunity to see Nigeria with fresh eyes.
